I believe we should embrace the formal living room, and do so without the pomp & formality. My clients are actually using these spaces as an ‘adult conversation room’ with one another and their friends. There is more focus on a beautiful room to enjoy, almost a retreat from the messiness of day-to-day life, children, animals, etc.  This is exactly what my client wanted; a beautiful room to enjoy time with one another when their children went to bed. However, they needed their living room to be functional to their lifestyle—2 young children (under the age of four) and a dog. I selected performance fabrics that are kid and pet friendly, and the custom rug has stain-repellent qualities. So, when their children do go in the living room, they are not as worried about a spill or mess.  Make your living room fun! Don’t be afraid to mix patterns, textures, and colors to showcase your personality!
